I agree with the first poster. This is (perhaps) a great tool for intermediate/advanced students of Japanese, but what about beginners? It would be great if there was at least an option to toggle either furigana or even better, romaji, so that we could actually READ the Japanese text. Ill change my rating as soon as that option is added!
PS. it IS nice to see a Japanese app here, though.

ive bought 4 of the major japanese/english applications for iphone and Accelastudy is the one i use the most now. after 2 months of using only the quiz portion of the application, i have increased my actual speaking vocabulary to more than 300 words! the ability to learn one function at a time is great also. it was very intimidating to learn a word in hiragana and its kanji but the ability to learn one function at a time and swap it around is really cool! the only thing i wish it had was a alphabet speed test ,stroke order, and writing function. im sure if they do update to those features, there will be no reason to use any other program with the exception of a dictionary at the most!!! GREAT APP!!!!
To the developer: please make sure the audio quality in the voice pronounciation is clear/loud and please offer both male & female voiceover because some native female voiceovers are aweful in other language learning software.
This is the best app I have used to learn and practice my Japanese. My only preference is that in the quiz/test it would be good if it displayed some kind of score at the end of the quiz. then I could try to improve the score by studying more.
This application is the most effective language learning tool Ive used. Period.
I love the new UI and the new spaced repetition feature. Very well written. I strongly recommend this app for anyone wanting to learn Japanese!
This app for Japanese is one of the few apps of the language in the app store that actualy teach YOU Japanese. I STRONGLY recommend it to people who want to learn Japanese. It does need maybe some charts that teach Hiragana & Katakana. But overall very great.
Also I believe it is the best Japanese app in the app store. And hopefully verbs come in version 1.4.5. Buy it.
Some bad moments
For $15 its not exactly worth it. I feel stupid for buying this. It doesnt show romaji or hiragana for people who cant read the many kanji symbols.
This app would be much better if hiragana and romaji were implimented.
This is pointless, there is no furigana or romaji to let users know how to pronounce kanji/entire words. Adding pronounciation is a standard dictionary practice. This app is the biggest rip off
This app is useless it only shows you words with its pronunciation (some are useless) theres no explanation no explanation for romaji or kanji words. Buy I start Japanese it explains everything about Japanese language and it has a lower price so buy it instead of this app.
Overall its an ok program. Great user interface. I love the custom study lists. The quiz functions are very effective. This program should focus on building vocab though, which it does. But it is defeated by its lack of college japanese vocab. Centering on that would greatly increase desirability among students. I suggest matching the vocab lists to popular highschool and college text books such as なかま.
Until then this remains a subpar app.
Try Kotoba Human Japanese and i-kanji touch much better for the same price. Also Learn 日本語 Is an awesome free app
This app will not teach you anything except words, no sentence patterns, no verbs, no explanations. I only bought this because it was recommended to me and I was told it was 0.99 and then to find out it was 9.99?!!! Definitely NOT worth it
No VERBS. Not a single one. No grammer, no sentence structure... Learn a lot of words, but can never DO anything with the words. Complete waste of $9.99.
